The equipment us photographers need is overwhelming and never ever ends! I'm just about to do my Nikon Emp. Purchase order for a SB-900 flash. Its my first and I'm already stressing about needed two more =) I need to win the lotto...I'll share with you if I do ;)
maybe try positioning your subject farther away from the wall there by eliminating the shadow. and watch the glare from the glasses. Shirley looks splendid though, lovely smile she has, you captured her hospitality/kindness i think!

You should think about doing passport photos. I need one soon. It could open doors for you for some other headshot opportunities.
